Collection contains correspondence, 1862, of Thomas J. Shaw with his wife Frances Pendleton (Stanard) Shaw, of Orange County, Va., concerning daily activities, work, and family life; and diaries, 1856-1862, kept by Shaw while a civil engineer for the Orange and Alexandria Railroad Company and while farming in Orange County, Va. Also, include a volume containing the records, 1833 February 5-1835 October 30, of the Philomathean Society, a debating society, of Winchester, Va., including the constitution and minutes of meetings; and the diary of Jaqueline Plummer Taliaferro kept while a school teacher at Orange Court House, Va., and a law student at the University of Virginia, 17 March 1838-24 November 1839.
